Most of the property in Jordan is owned by private owners is leased on long-term leases. Reforms to the current property law are in process to control the relationships between the owner and the tenant.
Recently, use of brokers, who are not professional, for real estate sales have been utilized, with commissions agreed between parties for each transaction. Professional real estate agencies are still not available in Jordan. Most real estate business is undertaken because of personal efforts and contacts. No license is required for brokerage work, as well as appraisal/valuation work.
The regulatory body to control the real estate market, “The Land & Property Department,” is still not very active.
Ownership of real property is evidence by title deeds. Real property records are kept manually and administered by designated notaries public who also register ownership and record transfer of real property and real property mortgages.
